Spring in Feburary

Spring seems to have set in here in Tennessee.  Seems very odd but not unlike Oklahoma which is where I am from.  Yesterday with temperatures in the mid 70's and last nights low was 69 our trees are starting to bud out.  Makes me worry that we are going to get smacked with a freeze.  I sure hope not but I can not rule that out.  The basement garage actually turned into a garage last night with the prediction of hail.  It took some doing but that brand new truck was not going to set out in possible hail!

This morning with it raining and dark out there I know our temps have dropped and storms are brewing.  So today is a good day for going into that nice studio and just piddling around.  Retirement just suits me!

I spent a few hours the past few days spinning.  It is not something I do often but this week I bought a beautiful batt and I was hooked the second I looked at it.  Thirty minutes later it was spun.  I got it at etsy but I have asked the maker if I could list her her but as of yet she has not responded.  So I will go on without listing her here at the moment.  Here is her shop link.  Check it out! She has some beautiful batts http://www.etsy.com/shop/butterflygirldesigns

Since I am not much of a knitter or crocheter it is always a dilemma as to what to do with my spun goods.  After much thought I believe that this is going to be couched to a pillow.   I think one of my very favorite motifs is called for.  Yes a heart will do for this beautiful peachy colorway.  This is merino, bamboo, silk, firestar, and angelina!  So it is very sparkly and that is part of why I love it so much.  I also bought another colorway that is bamboo, soy silk, firestar, and angelina but since it is the first time I have worked with those fibers I am not sure what I will do with it yet but believe me it is also already spun!

Vegan Seashells

I bought this colorway back in 2008 and finally decided to spin it!  I was on a roll!  It is black alpaca with a rainbow of  firestar.  I thought it turned out well but there again what am I going to do with it????  Undecided at this point.

I guess this week is the starting of projects and hopefully next week I will be finishing them.  I have spun fiber, worked on a quilted table runner, started a gift tag that is waiting on some crystals to complete, and I started a upcycled wool pillow made from a felted wool sweater.  The plan on the pillow is complete but actual embellishment is yet to be applied.

This will probably be worked on this morning because it is so close to finished.  It has been fun sharing my crafts with you.  Hopefully next time will be some finished items to show.

Major Gift

 A Gift for Major!

Well I couldn't leave my Grandson out.  Even though he is only 4 months old and could probably care less I had to make him a garland also.  His mother and I sat down in front of the computer and picked out the backing fabric as our inspiration.  So I guess his room is going to have an "alien influence".

There are 21 of these felt pieces.  All hand stitched and with handmade buttons.  The buttons are made from clay.  Mom said they look like candy so I hope little Major doesn't try to eat them!

The back said has this cute flannel alien fabric on it.  Yes it is out of this world! Hope it doesn't scare him.

The close up shows the buttons better and also the Estaz thread.  I love this thread!  It is so darn cute on this.  It comes in lots of colors.  I have used orange and lime green on this garland.  On Roxy's I used the white.

Not such a great picture but here it shows that I fringed the tie and beaded it.  I used pearl cotton in a variegated turquoise and lime.  I hope Major will love it when he gets older.  I know his momma does.

Well I guess it is time to start a new project! Woo Hoo!

A Valentine for Me!

Well the man and I have been steadily working on a project.  While it is not quite complete it is the best valentine he could possibly get for me.  It is a studio for all the crafting I do and it is so appreciated.  I have a place for everything and some places for what I don't have YET!

I love these drawers!  They contain most of my IMPORTANT STUFF!

Here is the man putting up one more light so that I can see MY STUFF!  We are using fluorescent lights that are like daylight and they are wonderful.  He went all out for this.

Light is installed and it sure made the area much easier to see.  I have a cabinet full of my beading things here and there just was not enough light.  The man fixed that little problem.

This cornerwas filled to the hilt with card board boxes before.  He bought me some shelving and I removed the boxes I could.  There is no way I would have thought the shelving would have held all that mess!

Now he is working on the rest of the basement garage.  Putting up speakers in the rafters up top.  Now we can have some music down there.  There will be a sitting area or "Harley Room/Man Cave" in the biggest part of the area but no doubt the bikes will also have room.
